Data latency in Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence in todays global market is making its mark across enterprises in handling the effective decision making and carrying forward with all the processes in time lines. Having been implemented and used in such rapid phase scenarios, todays business intelligence fills the gaps that exist among the processes of analytics and operations.

Characterized as the agile phase of technology development, business intelligence has all of those complicated queries in relation to data mining now being executed within seconds avoiding long execution hours as earlier. All these innovations or revolutions seems to be going fine, now lets try to explore what exactly is this concept in the title that states about data latency in business Intelligence.

Not exactly interrupting the discussion of business intelligence, lets try to understand more in the areas of data latency and its role and importance in todays business intelligence, starting from a general overview as one can state that data latency is the time taken to collect and store the data in the system wherein all the real-time business intelligence systems have some delay due to one or the other reasons. But the ultimate goal always lies in reducing the time delay that may occur from the happening or start of a business event to a corrective action or declaration being launched.

In a more elaborated terms, to be stated, data latency refers to the dryness of data at which the data value degrades with age at a rapid phase. The updated data and the fastest response times are needed all the time when enterprises rely over the real-time business intelligence to skillfully help them with on-the-spot decisions.

One need to work well with data latencies so as to provide the latest data values to the data mining engines that provides and meets the tactical and strategic needs of business intelligence and be able to be merged into a single solution. Crossing the barriers as such like data latency in the process of effective and efficient business intelligence in the real time across the global market is always necessary for the enterprises.

Simplified across three broad categories, data latency is of the forms - real time, near time, some time, as per discussions in business intelligence.
In any of these contexts, performance of the database must also be taken into account simultaneously so as the process proceeds with a - one process updating the database as faster as possible and another process is carried out in extracting the updated information.
Lets explore more in working and handling the data latency in the next article.
